A practice built around the people behind each case.
We began with the belief that inheritance law should never feel overwhelming. Our work starts with listening.
← Back to HomeHow Tawan Law came to be
Tawan Law was established in Bangkok by a group of lawyers who had spent years in broader civil practice and noticed a recurring gap. Families navigating the loss of a loved one were often handed dense legal paperwork with little explanation and even less empathy. The process felt cold at exactly the moment when warmth mattered most.
The firm's founding philosophy was straightforward: focus narrowly on inheritance and estate matters, do them thoroughly, and always explain what is happening in plain language. The name Tawan — meaning "sun" in Thai — reflects the idea of bringing a steady, reassuring light to an otherwise difficult passage.
Since opening on Rama IV Road in Khlong Toei, we have assisted families from across Thailand and internationally — cases ranging from a single private consultation through to contested estates resolved over many months. We do not take every case; we take cases we can handle well.
Our team holds current registration with the Lawyers Council of Thailand and stays current with amendments to the Civil and Commercial Code that affect succession and estate matters. Continuing legal education is not optional at this firm — it is how we serve clients properly.

What guides us every day
Listen before advising
Every situation carries its own weight. We take time to understand the full picture before offering any direction — there is no standard script here.
Clarity over complexity
Legal language can obscure rather than illuminate. We translate every step into plain terms so that clients understand what is happening and why.
Discretion as standard
Estate matters are private. We handle all client information with the same care we would want for our own families — thoroughly protected at all times.

How we maintain the quality of our work
Lawyers Council of Thailand Registration
All practising lawyers at Tawan Law hold current registration with the Lawyers Council of Thailand and are subject to its professional conduct rules.
Continuing Legal Education
Our team participates in ongoing professional development focused on Thai succession law and estate administration — keeping advice current and relevant.
Client Confidentiality Protocol
Every client file is stored securely, access is limited to the team members working on that matter, and we operate under strict legal professional privilege.
Written Summary at Every Stage
Following each consultation or key milestone, clients receive a plain-language written summary. Nothing important is left to memory or verbal recollection alone.
No Pressure Approach
Clients are never pressed to decide on additional services. We advise on options and allow the time needed to think — which is the only way to build genuine trust.
Published Fixed Fees
Our service fees are published and fixed for standard matters. Clients know what to expect financially before committing — no unexpected additions.
Inheritance and estate law in Thailand — what we know
Thai succession law is governed primarily by Books V and VI of the Civil and Commercial Code. These provisions determine how an estate is distributed — whether under a valid will or according to the statutory order of heirs — and set out the formal requirements for each type of transaction. The law distinguishes between movable and immovable assets, and particular rules apply to land held under various title grades, making local expertise particularly relevant.
For families where the deceased was a foreign national, or where assets are distributed across borders, the interaction of Thai law with the laws of other countries requires careful attention. Tawan Law has worked on estates involving assets in multiple jurisdictions and understands where Thai courts have authority and where collaboration with advisers elsewhere may be needed.
Administration of an estate in Thailand involves engagement with government departments, the Land Department where property is involved, and in some cases the courts for appointment of an estate administrator. Tawan Law handles these processes on behalf of clients, reducing the burden at a time when attention is already stretched.
When there are disagreements among heirs — about the validity of a will, the conduct of an administrator, or the value attributed to assets — the matter can become litigation. We approach contested estates with the same measured, careful tone as all our work, preferring resolution where possible, but prepared to represent a client's position fully when it is not.
